Running Mindfully - Alice Peters is a Certified ChiRunning
instructor and the mastermind behind RunningMindfully, Inc. I started working with Alice this past
winter, after 2+ years of some very concerted biomechanic and strength
work and post knee surgery I had a solid base of understanding of what
kind of strength I needed to obtain to be able to run. After working with Alice and
understanding the concept behind Chi Running I became excited about not
only the prospect of becoming a runner again, but being faster then I had
ever been. Not by running
more miles but more efficiently.
Since working with her my Dad has looked into Chi Walking, and with
a “new” knee is walking 8+ miles a day carrying a golf bag, walking boys
in their 20s into the dirt.
If you are interested in becoming the runner you always thought you
could be, or maybe even waling or running sans pain you should get to one
of Alice’s
clinics. The information she
provides you with is just one of the building blocks on your way to
becoming healthier and perhaps faster!

P.A.C.E. - The Portland Athletic
Center of Excellence is run and owned by David
McHenry.
David, a previous Division 1 Quarterback for Penn State is now one
of the top strength coaches in Oregon, and the head physical therapist at
PACE. His excitement over the
biomechanics of the body and his true love to help individuals understand
their strength potential leaves him a waiting list of top professional
athletes, runners, dancers, cyclist, triathletes and the list goes
on. He is rebuilding my mom
after a disappointed knee surgery and has convinced even a stubborn mother
that she has the potential to be healthy and strong again, with no need
for surgery or medication. I
started working with Dave this summer doing strength work and focusing on
my running biomechanics.
Although my fitness may not be where it used to be, I am running
faster with less effort.
David has truly been an inspiration to me. Along with some other fantastic
Physical Therapists (Chris Chorak, John Hinds…) and Strength coaches
(Monique Petrov, Mike McKinney…) I am pursuing a doctorate in Physical
Therapy, hopefully translating my personal knowledge of strength and
excitement for biomechanics into a formal practice.

BARRACUDA
- I have now been working with Rick
Runckle from Skyline NW and the Barracuda team for the second
year running. Barracuda has
traditionally been a swim company geared towards the adult swimmer and the
traithlete, but with a few new products on the market they are sneaking
their way into competitive swimming and the professional ranks of
triathlon.
The Hydrobat,
their new competitive goggle has through some underground channels found
it’s way onto some top elite swimmers, at the starting lines of the top
Professional triathlons, to the long time competitive swimmers around
Portland. Using hydrostatic pressure and a
never before seen design these goggles stay on in challenging open water
conditions and even starting dives off the blocks. With a new competitive swimwear
line coming out Barracuda may give TYR and Speedo something to watch out
for. Check out our new Upper
Echelon Silicon Barracuda swim caps (keep your hair, stay warm and
increase your comfort….plus you look cool!).

FIT 2 RACE - F2R began in Mill Valley
California through a vision of enjoying sports, life and contributing to
the community and world we enjoy every day. I personally have been very
blessed to work with Paul Lundgren and F2R, not only because of their top
of the line, hands-down fastest wetsuits, but because of their continued
support and vision of the athlete and the sport of
triathlon.
Looking
to purchase or rent a wetsuit? Looking for triathlon, running, cycling
gear? Looking to improve your swimming or expand your mind? Check out my
own personal F2R store at: http://larabrown.f2r.com/

Larry
and Joanne Papadopoulos made my winter when they called me 2 weeks ahead
of the 6-week wait for their E-Motion rollers. Making the move back
to the northwest, especially in this epic snow year has been tough, but
the emotion rollers have added another level to my cycling training.
These state of the art rollers are worth every penny and a fantastic way
to improve your riding skills, technique and at the same time power.
They are building and shipping as fast as they can out in North Plains
Oregon, but they have made time for me personally to check out the
facility, run me through one-on-one "rollers for idiots", and even put the
ready-to-ride set in the back of my Subaru. Thanks to Inside Ride
and BCI Manufacturing, I look forward to working with them more in the
future!
I started using Trigger Point Massage products
during my 2007 triathlon season, and since then TP products accompany me
wherever I go. A footballer in my gym bag, at the pool, a TP massage
ball on the plane, in the car and usually one in my backpack or
purse. I believe very strongly in Trigger Point Technologies
products and the vision of the company. I am always learning more
tools and techniques from their website and understanding more about my
body and how I can keep myself on top of my game.
